The harbour of saint Malo is also characterized by its commercial traffic.
The transported goods are principally sawed wood, granite, food supplementary for the stock and the different components included into the manufacture of manure.
These goods are transported of different ways:
- solide bulk: nitrates, phosphates, scrap metal, urea...
- liquid bulk : phosphoric acid, soda...
- packets or blocks: sawed wood, granite..
- big bags : manure ...
The size of ships is restricted to 150 m long and 25 m breadth by the lock of entrance. So, we can meet the following types of merchant vessels:
- fluvio-maritimes coaster,
- bulkers,
- chemical tankers.
The presence of the TIMAC plant in Saint-Malo also allows us to observe dredgers as the "
Côtes d'Armor" specialised in maerl and broken shells.
